And to top it all, the food he serves is BIRYANI !!

That being said, there is a hard-earned story behind the guy – the owner of the Salem RR Restaurant, Tamil Selvan. Long story in short, he came to Chennai as a small boy with no money, looking for at least some Koozhi Job to settle. He had lost his Mom at an early age and from the age of around 12 itself, he had to bear the hardship.

Tamil Selvan initially worked as a helper boy with a Thallu vandi food server and later got inspired to start one himself. As he had a great passion in food, he learnt the art of cooking the biryani (His favourite food). He was able to make a tastier one and deliver it to local people with his own thallu vandi. Soon Tamilselvan and his thallu vandi became a crowd favourite at the Guduvancherry area, from where it began.

Then with the help of some VIPs and MLAs who are regular customers to his thallu vandi, a small permanent place was set up for him at Tambaram. And from there, the rest of story is upbeat on an expansion scale from small to big and bigger.

Now, to the taste part, the first and biggest plus about Salem RR biriyani is its quantity. It is sufficiently enough for one hungry biryani craving customer. Personally, I prefer their chicken 65 biryani than the others, because of those spicy and boneless succulent 65 pieces. They are delectable.

( There are 4 pieces, I ate the 2 in urge before clicking the pic 😛 )

( It’s a huge Anda !! )

The biryani is basmati rice, its more tangier (may be due to tomatoes – a slight feeling of tomato rice ish :/), but as long as it goes along with the chicken 65 and the sides, it tastes fine. The sides are equally good – the thick raitha and brinjal curry. The price is a bit on the high side, costs around 180 plus GST. (There are only 4 chicken 65 pieces and your tummy craves for more:/)

Overall, the chicken 65 biriyani is a satisfying tummy filling enjoyable experience.

Reading Time: 2 minutesSalem is known for some authentic food style and when a Passionate Salem guy starts his own restaurant right at the heart of the capital city – Chennai, it sure is a treat for the folks of Chennai.
